Poland has extended temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees until June 30, 2024. According to information from Prawo.pl, this decision was made by the Polish Sejm. However, Polish lawmakers refused to extend temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens until March 4, 2025, as proposed in the EU Council decision.
You can apply for temporary protection and for PESEL in town halls and in some specially designated places (stadiums in big cities). You can choose any seat, regardless of your location. Registration of citizens of Ukraine is carried out using any document confirming the data you provide in the application, including your identity. If there is no such document, then signing the statement is legally equivalent to a statement that your data is correct.
The application for receiving temporary protection is submitted in person. The presence of a child under the age of 12 when submitting an application is not mandatory, except in cases where his identity is established on the basis of the application. The application is submitted on behalf of the child by one of the parents, a guardian, a temporary guardian appointed by the guardianship and care court, or a person who actually represents the interests of the child. Children under the age of 12 cannot be fingerprinted.
Ukrainians who wish to apply for temporary protection in France should apply to the prefecture of the department at their place of residence or "Accueil Ukraine" points. In these institutions, Ukrainians are provided with food, hygiene products, medical consultations, support of social workers and psychologists, and temporary housing.
In accordance with parts 390-396 of Article 1 of the Law of the Italian Republic No. 213 of December 30, 2023, the temporary protection of Ukrainian citizens affected by the war has been extended in Italy until December 31, 2024.
If you belong to the number of persons entitled to temporary protection, it is sufficient to apply for a residence permit for temporary protection to the police department at your place of residence. This application is free.
At the police station, you will be fingerprinted and asked to provide your personal data, passport or other identity documents. In addition, you will be issued a receipt for submitting an application, which you must always have with you until the day of issuing a residence permit for temporary protection.

The receipt (la ricevuta) for submitting an application for a residence permit already gives you the opportunity to use all the rights of temporary protection.
If you have arrived in Italy with a person under the age of 18, you must immediately report their presence to the public security authority nearest to your place of residence.
Spain, like other EU countries, extended temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 2025. In order to obtain temporary protection in Spain, you must have a biometric passport for traveling abroad and a child's birth certificate, if the protection is issued for a child. A residential address in Spain is also required.
The State Council (RvS) decided to terminate temporary protection for persons who had a temporary residence permit in Ukraine, such as a temporary work or study permit. The temporary protection will expire on March 4, 2024.
If you cannot return to your country of origin because you are not safe there, you can apply for asylum in the Netherlands. You need to appear at the registration center in Ter-Apel.
Temporary protection is granted after registration with the Immigration Service. In order to issue temporary protection, you need to make an appointment on the website http://www.register-ukraine.be/.
Registration takes place in person at the registration center at: Hall 8, Brussels Expo, Heysel, Brussels. Working hours: from Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 16:00. Hours of operation may vary according to the number of requests received.
It is necessary to provide identification data and copies of documents confirming the right to receive protection. If necessary, biometric data (fingerprints) will be taken. The request for minors under the age of 18, who are accompanied by an adult who is their legal guardian, is made by the legal guardian on behalf of the child. Minors under the age of 18 who are in the country without a parent or legal guardian will be given further support and legal guardianship. The guardianship service will appoint a guardian. Only persons officially recognized by the Guardianship Service can be appointed guardians. For this, potential guardians undergo a selection procedure and special training on guardianship issues. The guardian performs his duties under the supervision of the Guardianship Service and the Justice of the Peace.
If you have Ukrainian citizenship or protection status in Ukraine, you and your family members are entitled to so-called temporary protection under certain conditions. To do this, you need to contact designated police stations and points of arrival (registration offices).
As soon as you are registered, you get access to primary care, which includes: temporary accommodation, medical insurance, food.
You will also receive a certificate - "Certificate of a displaced person". This certificate provides you with access to the labor market. Usually, this certificate is sent by mail to your address. Therefore, first of all, you always need to register your place of residence (certificate on registration of place of residence - Meldeztel).
In order to be able to apply for a residence permit in Sweden with protection under the Temporary Protection Directive, you must be in Sweden. You can register your application online or visit the office of the Swedish Migration Agency in person. If you apply online and have arranged your stay yourself, you do not need to visit the Swedish Migration Agency until a decision has been made. Those who need help with housing must visit the office in person, but for this, an application must be submitted in the electronic system before visiting the office.
If you have no money of your own, you may be entitled to financial support from the Migration Board when you apply for a residence permit under the Temporary Protection Directive. If you need financial support, you must visit the Migration Office in person or send a signed application form by mail.
Lithuania does not grant refugee status to persons temporarily displaced from Ukraine, but instead issues a temporary residence permit in Lithuania for humanitarian reasons. Its validity period is 1 year. This certificate provides the following guarantees: the right to education, health insurance, the right to permanent residence for a period of 1 year with a possible extension of up to 3 years, access to the labor market, social assistance.
To obtain a residence permit, you need to register at one of the registration centers in Lithuania. At the same time, Ukrainian immigrants and their families who do not have a valid foreign passport will be issued a certificate of foreign registration until their legal situation is resolved.
Latvia has a separate law on the status of the civilian population of Ukraine, so there is no need to apply for refugee status. From January 1, 2023, residents of Ukraine who apply for temporary protection status in the Republic of Latvia will be issued a temporary residence permit for a period of two years.
