Until February 24, 2022, when martial law was declared in Ukraine, the term for accepting inheritance was 6 months.

However, due to the martial law, there were changes in Ukrainian legislation. Another 4 months were added to the total of 6 months for accepting the inheritance. Therefore, if the person died after February 24, 2022, or if the deadline for accepting the inheritance has not yet expired by February 24, 2022, then the heirs have the opportunity to accept or refuse the inheritance within 10 months.

It must be remembered that this term for acceptance of inheritance will last only during the period of martial law. After the end of martial law, this term can be shortened and will again be 6 months. In other words, when martial law is lifted, the heirs will have only 6 months to accept or reject the inheritance.
