An investigation is a set of legal features of a case, which determine which investigative body should conduct proceedings in this case.

In criminal proceedings regarding criminal offenses provided for by Articles 384, 385, 386, 387, 388, 396 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the pre-trial investigation is carried out by the investigator of the body responsible for the criminal offense in connection with which the pre-trial investigation was initiated.

In criminal proceedings regarding criminal offenses provided for in Articles 209 and 209-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the pre-trial investigation is carried out by the investigator of the body that initiated the pre-trial investigation or whose jurisdiction includes a socially dangerous illegal act that preceded the legalization (laundering) of proceeds obtained through crime , except for cases when these criminal offenses are brought under the jurisdiction of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine.

If, during the pre-trial investigation, other criminal offenses committed by the person under pre-trial investigation or by another person are established, if they are related to the criminal offenses committed by the person under pre-trial investigation, and which are not subject to the authority that carries out a pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings, the prosecutor who supervises the pre-trial investigation, in the case of the impossibility of separating these materials into a separate proceeding, determines the subjectivity of all these criminal offenses by his resolution.
