What documents are required to obtain a gun permit?

In order to obtain a permit from the police authorities for the purchase of rifled hunting firearms, smooth-bore weapons, pneumatic weapons, cold and cooled weapons, citizens submit a corresponding application (addressed to the head of the police authority at the applicant's place of residence).

The following documents are submitted to the application:

• completed application card (Appendix 14 to the Instructions);

• medical certificate (except for cold weapons);

• a certificate on the study of the material part of the weapon, special means, rules for handling them and their use (except for cooled weapons);

• a payment document (payment order, receipt) with a note of the bank, post office, or the code of the transaction to deposit funds for the provision of the corresponding paid service;

• copies of pages 1, 2 and 11 of the passport of a citizen of Ukraine (for persons who have been issued a passport of a citizen of Ukraine with a contactless electronic medium, a copy of the passport and an extract from the Unified State Demographic Register regarding the registration of the place of residence);

• a document confirming the citizen's actual place of residence (residential lease agreement, certificate of ownership of residential premises, etc.) (if the citizen's actual residence is different from what is indicated in the passport).

In addition, 4 photo cards measuring 3X4 cm are required for document processing, and a contract of mandatory civil liability insurance for the owner of weapons, except for cooled weapons, is required to obtain a permit to carry and store weapons.

If a citizen who applies to the police authority for a permit to purchase a weapon or device already owns or uses a weapon or device, he must provide a copy of the permit to store this weapon or device, and the documents (certificates) that were submitted upon receipt permits for acquisition, storage (re-registration), are valid, they are not issued again, the owner submits their copies.
