I read that a Kyiv court extended the detention of a former theater director, who is suspected of serious crimes, and did not allow bail. I am curious, in what cases can a person be kept in custody without the possibility of posting bail, and who decides if it can be applied? How are the rights of the suspect protected in such cases?

Bail is not applied if the crime was committed with the use of violence or the threat of its use, resulted in human death, or if the person has already violated bail in this proceeding.
