Liability for fraud with EU agricultural subsidies

I read that people were arrested in Greece for fraud with EU agricultural subsidies, specifically for providing false data to receive money. I am interested, if a farmer or enterprise in my country provides false information to receive similar subsidies from the EU or the state, what could be the liability for such actions? Does this only entail financial sanctions, or could there also be criminal liability?
