Is it legal to dismiss an employee due to relatives at work?

I read that the appellate court ruled that the dismissal of an employee was illegal because her mother works at the same enterprise. Does an employer even have the right to dismiss a person simply because their relative also works in the same organization? Are there any limitations or exceptions in the law regarding this matter?
