Will I be admitted to court without a passport?

I am going to court and I saw that I need to have an identity document with me, otherwise I might not be allowed into the building. What if I accidentally forgot my passport at home or lost it? Can I still be admitted to court, for example, with a driver's license or another document, or is it mandatory to have a passport? And is it legal to refuse access to court due to the absence of such a document?
