Loss of sick pay due to alcohol during sick leave

I've learned that if a person is intoxicated while on sick leave, they may be denied sick pay. If such a situation arises, but I believe there was no violation, or the doctor's note was made in error, do I have the right to appeal the denial of sick pay, and what steps should I take?
