Does training count towards insurance experience after 2004?

I graduated from university after 2004 and am now wondering whether my time studying at university is counted towards my pension insurance period. What options do I have if this period is not automatically counted? Can I somehow additionally include these years in my pension period, and what do I need to do to do this?
