If a woman is officially employed, can the employer fire her during pregnancy or after giving birth?
An employer does not have the right to dismiss a woman from work due to pregnancy, except in cases of complete liquidation of an enterprise, institution, or organization, when dismissal with mandatory employment is permitted.
The legislation also provides protection for pregnant women in the event of staff reduction or changes in working conditions. According to the Labor Code of Ukraine, if the employer has made a decision to dismiss an employee due to staff reduction and the employee is pregnant, she has a priority right to keep her job. The employer must offer her another vacancy within the enterprise or organization.
